We, along with our 2021 agency partner Status Forward, are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2021 Stand Up Initiative. Launched by Darby Communications in 2016, the Stand Up Initiative provides pro bono PR and digital marketing services to environmental nonprofits and expanded in 2021 to include nonprofits working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the outdoors. Past recipients include the San Juan Mountains Association, Nantahala-Pisgah Forest Partnership, Bee City USA, Grand Staircase Escalante Partners, and more.
In 2021, our agencies will partner with two outstanding organizations: Friends of Dupont Forest (Dupont State Recreational Forest in Western North Carolina) and Waterside Workshops (in Berkeley, California). Together, we will donate 100 hours of PR and marketing services to each nonprofit.
Beginning immediately, we will team up with western North Carolina nonprofit, Friends of DuPont Forest, on their Share the Trails campaign. This campaign will help to address user conflict and harmonization on the trails, since DuPont State Recreational Forest attracts over 1 million hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners, equestrians, and other visitors from around the world. The agencies will lend a mix of social media assessment and strategy, website, and wayfinding design support to help Friends of Dupont convey the “Share the Trails” messaging to the forest’s visitors.
“We are so excited to be selected for the Stand Up Initiative,” says Sara Landry, Executive Director of Friends of Dupont. “The Share the Trails campaign will teach visitors how to be good guests – we believe a little education can go a long way to help protect the Forest and really enhance recreation for everyone.”
In the second half of 2021, our agencies will provide a mix of website redevelopment, social media assessment and strategy, and email marketing to Waterside Workshops, a nonprofit which provides job training, outdoor recreation, and holistic wraparound support for at-risk youth in the Bay Area.
“Our organization has needed support in this area for a very long time,” says Amber Rich, Administrative Director for Waterside Workshops. “We look forward to updating our online presence so we can more clearly illustrate our mission to the community and our supporters.” Neil Larsen, Executive Director for Waterside, adds, “We’re excited for the help to make these long-overdue improvements to our digital presence and our communications.”
“Collaboration can create amazing forward momentum and we’re beyond thrilled to partner in an effort to make an impact for these two incredible organizations,” says Coral Darby of Darby Communications.
“We’re looking forward to once again employing the combined skills of our two teams to help this year’s partners as they work to protect and promote a healthy outdoors for everyone,” says Laurel Scherer of Status Forward.
