We’re excited to introduce the two newest additions to the Darby Communications team, Lysianne Peacock and Lizzy Markman. Lysianne comes to us after finishing up an internship at Arches National Park (after earning her Masters in Recreation Management). She’s bagged quite a few 14ers over the years and has immense pride for her home state of Wisconsin (apparently this is a thing for Wisconsinites). Lizzy moved here from her home state of New Hampshire, where she resided for a bit after closing down her food truck, Ooga Booga Waffles, that she owned with some friends in Austin, TX. We haven’t tasted these Best of Texas waffles yet, but the pressure is on for her to do a staff breakfast for us in the near future.
So enough with the intros….let’s find out some fun facts about both of these amazing gals!

What clients can we find you working with at Darby?
Lizzy: BRANWYN, Fit Rankings, Hyland’s, Nine Mile, Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn, Stand Up Initiative, and Tarpestry
Lysianne: Industrial Revolution, Sierra Designs, SylvanSport, Ombraz, and Wildwater
Beverage of choice?
Lizzy: Waterloo lemon
Lysianne: A fountain Coke from McDonalds. McDonald’s fountain Coke is way better than Coke in a can, bottle, or any other restaurant IMO. It’s the best especially after a long day hike.
If we are talking adult beverages, Spotted Cow from New Glarus Brewing Company. You will not find that beer anywhere but in Wisconsin, because New Glarus will not sell their beer anywhere but in Wisconsin.

Favorite part of the job?
Lizzy: Eating popcorn 😉 🍿
Lysianne: When I get to be creative! That can be in the form of crafting social media posts, designing newsletters, or brainstorming new ideas. I also LOVE the culture of Darby Comm. It feels like one big happy and fun family with likeminded interests and so much support and love.
Where can we find you while not in the office?
Lizzy: Probably getting lost, the roads here are very confusing.
Lysianne: Hitting the trail for another epic hiking adventure.

Favorite piece of gear?
Lizzy: My Cotopaxi puffy
Lysianne: My Black Diamond Trail Ergo Cork Trekking Poles! They are an extension of my body while hiking. I have scoliosis with a 31-degree curvature, which causes muscle pain in my back and hips. Because hiking is a non-negotiable, my trekking poles help alleviate my pain by reducing the impact on my lower body when I am out hiking.
Must follow on Instagram?
Lizzy: Smithsonian Folkways
Lysianne: My blog, @findoutspiration. I aim to inspire people from all walks of life to get outside through my stories and the stories of others. I also post hiking tips, trip planning information, and awesome self-curated photography.
Podcast or music?
Lizzy: Tough one, but I’d say podcast (I binged 99% Invisible on my drive down here).
Lysianne: Can audiobooks be an answer? I love listening to books while I am driving, cleaning, and hiking. If I must pick between podcasts and music, then music. My car turns into an arena featuring me and my Spotify playlists, and it’s so therapeutic to belt out my favorite songs at the top of my lungs.

Favorite spot in WNC?
Lizzy: I haven’t lived here very long, but I’m excited to spend more time exploring the trails.
Lysianne: I haven’t been here that long (one month now!) but so far, my favorite spot is Montreat, NC. It’s close to my house and there are a plethora of hiking trails to explore.
Burrito or taco?
Lizzy: Taco, no question
Lysianne: Taco, definitely. Don’t get me wrong. I love burritos, but I haven’t mastered the burrito roll. Tacos are just so easy and delicious.
What’s your next splurge purchase?
Lizzy: New climbing shoes 😊
Lysianne: If you look at my recent Google Search history, you’re going to see that I have been searching for whitewater paddling courses, roof racks, kayaks, and SUPs. I want to dive into the world of paddle sports, but I don’t know where to begin!

What are you jamming to on the headphones while in the office?
Lizzy: I’ve been listening to Kaia Kater this week.
Lysianne: It all depends on my mood. Right now? Olivia Rodrigo (like everyone else in the world). Her music is reminiscent of Paramore and is a bop. Next week, I will probably be jamming to something new, who knows?
What is your superpower and what have you done with it?
Lizzy: Making and eating stuffed waffles
Lysianne: Eating spaghetti. I once ate spaghetti five days in a row and did not get sick of it.
