Meeting with editors in-person is always important as a PR professional working in the digital age. Our most recent client, Diamond Brand Gear, is not only based here in Asheville, NC, but also manufactures all of its bags and tents here as well. Recently, we invited an intimate group of journalists for an interactive factory tour at Diamond Brand Gear to see the facilities and sit down to sew a bag to take home, on the industrial machines with the pros.
The tour began with a history of this 116 year old brand from the CEO, John Delaloye. Best known for producing tents and bags for the military and the Boy Scouts of America, Diamond Brand Gear has been producing gear in this region since 1881. The name Diamond Brand originated in the 1880’s due to the ‘Diamond Brand’ stamp that indicated high quality goods. Today, the company is dedicated to continuing the tradition of crafting high quality gear here in the Carolina Mountains, by educating their workforce on the latest sewing techniques and making efforts to share this with the next generation.
Many of the media who attended the event had never sewn before, and the skilled sewers at Diamond Brand Gear were able to get them on the machines and completing their own laptop bag in no time at all. It’s always a great experience to mingle with media and talk to them about our brands’ products and missions. To be able to get them in a working factory, meet the people making the products and actually sew on the machines themselves is an unique experience that is beneficial for our clients and not soon forgotten.
