Stacy Kline comes to us from Nashville, TN, yep, that’s pretty much Asheville with an ‘N’ in front of it! She is a rock climber, trail runner, and overall general outdoor enthusiast. We’re excited to have her join our growing team! Check out our interview with her below and find out why she’s an expert on all things Titanic 🚢 and whether she’s team 🌮 or 🍕 .
What clients will we find you working on at Darby Comm?
I have the pleasure of working with Sierra Designs, Knog, LifeSaver, Ignik, and Appalachian Gear Company.
Do you have any nicknames?
In high school I somehow took on the nickname “StaceFace” but now really, my closest friends just call me “Stace.”
Best childhood memory?
I would have to say it was summers spent with my neighborhood friends, growing up in a town where we could entertain ourselves by doing things outside. Some of my best memories were of us either riding our bikes into town, exploring the woods in the back of our neighborhood, swimming in our friend’s pool, and just generally doing very stupid and silly things that made us laugh.
Apparently, you are the expert on all things Titanic, tell us a little about your experience there and one fun fact about the Titanic that not everyone knows.
Ah yes, well this didn’t really happen on purpose, but I somehow found myself diving into research for television projects I was producing, and I guess the information just stuck. It might have been my love for the movie Titanic and growing up loving Kate & Leo (who didn’t??). But in all seriousness, the production company I was working for stumbled into this world that’s truly global – we traveled all over meeting experts in the US, UK, and Ireland. The story is truly endless and one of both humanity and hubris. Over the years, we produced content both for an online channel that was ‘all things Titanic’ and also feature productions for both the History Channel and PBS. It was insanely fascinating to work on and experiences that I’ll remember forever.
Probably one of the more interesting and unknown facts is that pretty much every picture you see labeled as Titanic is not actually the Titanic, it’s of her sister ship, the RMS Olympic. The reason for this is that the Titanic was delayed in production and was not able to be photographed before its maiden voyage. The plan was to have it photographed when it arrived in NYC. Funny enough, it was delayed because the Olympic was involved in an accident that required the shipyard workers to shift focus and quickly fix the Olympic so that it could get back into service. Guess who was the captain of the Olympic? Yep, the same captain that sank the Titanic…foreshadowing anyone??
As a climber, what is one of your favorite spots to climb that you don’t mind sharing with our readers?
I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Kings Bluff which is in Clarksville, TN (just north of Nashville.) Kings is where I first learned to climb outdoors and is filled with a lot of fun memories, learning how to lead climb, build anchors, and rappel. Some of my other favorites are Jackson Falls, IL, and The Obed in TN.
Tacos or Pizza?
This might be the hardest question of my life – it honestly depends on the type of pizza and the type of taco. But I’m usually always satisfied with tacos so I’ll go with tacos. 🌮
One thing you’re looking forward to doing once you move to Asheville?
Definitely exploring more of the mountains surrounding Asheville – I’ve visited Asheville a lot over the years but feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface.
Podcasts or Playlists?
Depends on the occasion – if I need to be entertained for a long time, whether that’s driving or trail running a stupid amount of miles, definitely podcasts. But if I’m needing some motivation or a lil’ pick me up, always a good playlist. 🎧
If you could meet anyone from the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?
Honestly, it would be my dream to meet the whole cast of Queer Eye and have them give me a makeover. All of them are so positive, empowering, and have a really beautiful way of creating a world of understanding from people of all different backgrounds.
Favorite Michael Scott quote?
Ahh!! There are so many good ones, and also so many NSFW ones!
But this one always gets me…it’s when Michael tries to explain to David Wallace why things are going right at the Scranton branch:
“David, here it is. My philosophy is, basically this. And this is something that I live by. And I always have. And I always will. Don’t, ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who you are with, or, or where you are going, or, or where you’ve been. Ever. For any reason. Whatsoever.”
Beverage of choice?
Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewery 🍺
Favorite piece of gear?
My Houdini wind shell from Patagonia – it’s amazing how warm this thing keeps you when you’re running in cold weather!!
